Reception Autumn Newsletter

Welcome back. We hope you enjoyed your half term holiday and were able to get out into the late autumn sunshine.
New topic
Over this half term we will be finding out about ‘celebrations’ finding out about different festivals and events. We are starting learning about Halloween and Fireworks. We will go on to find out about Diwali . And finish with the celebration of Christmas.
We will be exploring light and dark. Investigating dark places, shadows and using torches.
We are busy learning our phonic sounds and are building confidence and skill in using them in our reading and writing. We will continue to send home weekly ‘sound’ homework which comes out on a Friday.
PE
The children will be experiencing some PE skills sessions outside and are welcome to wear an outdoor PE kit. Jogging bottoms and top with outdoor trainers.
As always please label any items of clothing. Named clothing can usually find its way back home!
Reading
Just before half term we posted information about reading via Class Dojo. Is it a 7 minute video which explains a little bit about find out how we teach phonics and gives you an opportunity to see the resources we use in RWI. If you have any questions contact us directly with any queries at EYFS@costesseyprimary.co.uk
Home learning
We are continuing to send home the single letter sheet on a Friday to practice saying sounds and building words. Alongside this some children will have a sheet to copy and trace over their name to build name writing confidence and /or a sheet to develop number awareness. Later in the term your child may bring home red words (this are words which cannot be sounded out) to practice spelling – just like their bigger brothers and sisters.
Christmas celebrations
Every year we have a Christmas show and this year will be no exception. We are planning to film each class’s little extravaganza and post them onto Class Dojo. No child will be filmed where families have NOT given permission. We will let you know more nearer the time.
Best Wishes
